Overview▸, to utilize AutoMQ Cloud, you must first configure the environment. This article details how to swiftly create a BYOC environment in the Alibaba Cloud marketplace through a one-click solution available there.

In this article, the terms "AutoMQ product service provider," "AutoMQ service provider," and "AutoMQ" are specifically used to refer to "AutoMQ CO.," which is located in Hangzhou.

Prerequisites​

Condition 1: Dependency on Cloud Products Being Activated​

To establish a BYOC environment on Alibaba Cloud, the user's Alibaba Cloud account needs to have the following cloud products pre-activated; otherwise, the service cannot be utilized.

  1. Elastic Compute Service (ECS), where AutoMQ Kafka deploys computing nodes using Elastic Compute Service (ECS).

  2. Object Storage Service (OSS), where AutoMQ Kafka utilizes Object Storage Service (OSS) for data storage.

  3. PrivateZone, where AutoMQ Kafka uses PrivateZone for domain name resolution of Kafka cluster access points.

Prerequisite: Cloud Account Operational Permissions​

To set up a BYOC environment, operations must be conducted by either the primary account holder or an authorized RAM sub-account. If you're using a RAM sub-account to access the Alibaba Cloud console, begin by assigning the necessary permissions as outlined in the Alibaba Cloud Compute Nest RAM Authorization Document. After granting permissions, you can activate the services. Below are the pertinent authorization policies and a list of cloud products:

  • AliyunVPCFullAccess: Grants full management rights over Virtual Private Cloud (VPC).

  • AliyunECSFullAccess: Grants full management rights over Elastic Compute Service (ECS).

  • AliyunOSSFullAccess: Grants full management rights over Object Storage Service (OSS).

  • AliyunTagAdministratorAccess: Allows management of the Tag Service (TAG) and tags across all Alibaba Cloud products.

  • AliyunCloudMonitorFullAccess: Grants full management rights over CloudMonitor.

  • AliyunROSFullAccess: Grants full management rights over Resource Orchestration Service (ROS).

  • AliyunPvtzFullAccess: Grants full management permissions for the PrivateZone DNS service.

The above permission policy serves as the default system policy template recommended by Alibaba Cloud, and users can further refine the scope for tailored authorization based on their management preferences.

Operational Procedure​

AutoMQ Cloud is currently listed under Alibaba Cloud Marketplace > Basic Software > Application Development category, and the product is named AutoMQ for Kafka (BYOC Pay-As-You-Go Edition).

Currently, it supports the creation of BYOC environments in the following Alibaba Cloud regions: North China 1 (Qingdao), North China 2 (Beijing), North China 3 (Zhangjiakou), East China 1 (Hangzhou), East China 2 (Shanghai), South China 1 (Shenzhen), South China 3 (Guangzhou), Hong Kong China, Singapore, USA (Silicon Valley), USA (Virginia), Central Europe (Frankfurt).

  1. Navigate to Cloud Marketplace and search for AutoMQ for Kafka, locate the AutoMQ for Kafka (BYOC Pay-As-You-Go Edition) product, or directly access the product page through the provided link.
  1. Click Subscribe Now, complete the required information to activate the subscription at no cost. At this point, the Alibaba Cloud Marketplace will engage Alibaba Cloud Compute Nest services to establish an AutoMQ BYOC edition environment console.

Note:

Activating a subscription sets up an environment console, which itself is free for AutoMQ users, though it does utilize an ECS machine for operation.

Refer to Glossary▸, where it's advised to establish a new environment console only for distinct networks and distinct business department ownership. Each environment can establish and oversee multiple Kafka instances (clusters). For an in-depth understanding of the environment, see Overview▸.

  1. Once the subscription is active, the foundational computing nest service starts deploying the environment console. Users can navigate to Cloud Market Buyer's Console > Purchased Services > AutoMQ for Kafka (BYOC pay-as-you-go version) to view details and access the console URL.

Note:

By default, accessing the environment console via a public IP address is recommended when setting up an environment. If there is a dedicated connection between the user's office network and the Alibaba Cloud VPC, opting for private network access is possible. Users may also configure DNS resolution for the AutoMQ Cloud BYOC console.
