Prepaid Subscription from Alibaba Cloud Marketplace

Refer to the billing Overview▸, AutoMQ Cloud BYOC Edition offers two billing options: subscription-based prepaid plans on an annual or monthly basis and pay-as-you-go subscriptions. This article provides step-by-step guidance on purchasing a prepaid subscription license via the Alibaba Cloud marketplace for subsequent product activation.

In this article, terms such as AutoMQ product service provider, AutoMQ service provider, and AutoMQ specifically denote "AutoMQ CO."

Terms like cloud providers, public cloud providers mentioned in this article explicitly refer to the foundational cloud service providers that support AutoMQ Cloud, including AWS, Google, Azure, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Huawei Cloud, and others.

Prerequisites​

Users can acquire the subscription license for AutoMQ Cloud BYOC Edition through the Alibaba Cloud marketplace, which will be used for later software activation and authorization. Before making a purchase, ensure you have an Alibaba Cloud account and have completed real-name authentication.

Usage Process​

To activate the AutoMQ Cloud BYOC Edition via a prepaid subscription in the marketplace, the overall process is outlined as follows, divided mainly into three phases:

  • Step one: Through the deployment environment control console in the computing nest.

  • Step two: Purchase and subscribe to the license.

  • Step three: Initialize the environment and activate the product.

Step One: Deploy the Environment Via the Alibaba Cloud Compute Nest Console​

The AutoMQ Cloud BYOC version, with the pre-payment method, requires deployment through the Alibaba Cloud Compute Nest environment console. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

  1. Navigate to the Alibaba Cloud Compute Nest Product Console, access the Service Catalog Page, and search for AutoMQ.
  1. Click on View Details to initiate the official creation. Follow the prompts to input the environmental information, and finalize the setup of the environment console.

Step Two: Purchase a New Subscription License in the Cloud Market​

The AutoMQ Cloud BYOC version's pre-paid subscription license is now available under Alibaba Cloud Market > Basic Software > Application Development. The product is listed as AutoMQ for Kafka (BYOC Pre-paid Subscription License Edition). Below is an outline of the usage process:

Alibaba Cloud users can explore the Cloud Marketplace to search for AutoMQ or Kafka and discover the product AutoMQ for Kafka (BYOC Prepaid Subscription License). Choose the desired specification version and subscription duration, then purchase the authorization code.

After completing the purchase, navigate to Cloud Market Buyer's Console -> Purchased Services to check the authorization code information.

Step Three: Environment Initialization and Product Activation​

  1. Following step one, utilize Alibaba Cloud's computing services to set up the environment and finalize the configuration for environment initialization. The initial access to the environment console will prompt for environment activation.

  2. Gather the Installation ID and the authorization code from step 2. Consult Obtaining Services▸ to reach out to AutoMQ technical support for the product key needed for activation.

  3. Return to the environment activation page, enter the product key, activate the environment, and then proceed to normally create instances.

Throughout this process, users should pre-calculate the required amount of AKU for all instances in the environment and buy a sufficient quota of AKU. For details on AutoMQ Cloud BYOC version AKU billing, refer to Billing Instructions for BYOC▸.

For instance, if Environment 1 is projected to have 2 Kafka instances, with the first Kafka instance estimated at 100 AKU and the second at 200 AKU, users should procure at least a 300 AKU specification of the subscription license to accommodate future usage.

Note:

Using a subscription license model means that costs are only incurred at the time of purchase; creating instances via the AutoMQ console afterwards will only require payment for cloud resources from the cloud providers, without any additional software service fees. Any software service fees are covered by the credit from the subscription license.

Since the subscription license is prepaid and periodic, users should monitor the expiration date of their subscription licenses and renew them ahead of time to prevent any interruptions in service due to an expired subscription.

Subscription License Renewal and Adjustment Process​

For renewals, follow the new purchase procedure; if the previously purchased subscription license does not cover your current resource needs, you won't be able to create new instances or expand existing ones. In such cases, you need to adjust your current subscription license.

AutoMQ subscription licenses allow for adjustments, meaning that during the active period of the subscription, users can increase their specification quota, and the cloud marketplace will automatically settle the difference. Here’s how the adjustment process works:

  1. Access the Cloud Marketplace Buyer Console -> Purchased Services to view your authorization code information using your cloud account.

  1. Click Upgrade, choose the new license specification, and pay the difference as prompted.

  2. Referring to the initial activation process, contact AutoMQ technical staff to update the product secret key and reactivate to refresh the licence amount of the environment.
